Summer Wedding Hair Tips
Summer is quickly creeping up and that means plenty of summer wedding hair dilemmas. Many brides this time of year make the mistake of choosing their hairstyle while they’re in the salon; they pick out something that’s absolutely gorgeous that fits their theme and compliments their features, only to have it all fall apart on the day of their wedding. Wind, humidity and high heat can all cause chaos on a perfectly planned updo. So this summer, whether you are getting married or are simply attending a wedding, here are a few tips to ensure your hair will be the least of your problems:
1.) Fight sun damage. You probably remember to apply sunscreen to your skin, but what about your hair? UV rays are just as damaging to your hair as they are to your skin, leaving your hair dry, brittle and dull. Plus, if you’re planning on wearing your hair that leaves a part somewhere, you’re going to want to make sure you have sunscreen on that area of your scalp. Various leave-in conditioners and hairsprays now have SPF (or HPF), so choose wisely.
2.) Fight humidity. No one wants frizz and fly-aways on their wedding day, so be ready to counteract any unsuspecting humidity. The best thing to do in this case is to work with your hair, not against it. A leave-in conditioner may once again prove useful, while a smoothing serum will help with those out of control fly-aways. Less is more though; too much will make your hair appear greasy and limp. A light touch with the styling products will keep your look fresh.
3.) Consider your hair length. Long hair and short hair often need entirely different styling products and techniques. A haircut might also be in order if you want to look your absolute best. Long, flowing curls might look better with some longer layers added throughout and an already short do might look absolutely darling if you were to have an sophisticated pixie cut. Of course, you should always consult an experienced hair stylist before trying anything drastic.
4.) Trust your stylist. Hair stylists have seen it all, so they do know what they’re talking about. If you have issues with a specific style you should absolutely voice your opinions, but you should also trust that your stylist knows what they’re doing. Plus, if they suggest a specific product or style, you have every right to give it a test run. Use the products they will use on your wedding day a month or two before to see how your hair reacts.
5.) Don’t forget the accessories! Part of the fun in wedding hair is the accessories! There are veils, flowers, brooches, hair clips and many other things to play around and have fun with. Whatever style you’re going for, there is most likely a perfect accessory to go along with it. Of course a natural look is perfect as well, but you’ll want to know all your options before making a decision!
